AP: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation makes arrangements for elections to 120 wards; 18.37 Lakh voters registered

Visakhapatnam, Oct. 16 (UNI) The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is making arrangements to conduct its 2026 general elections in a peaceful, free and fair manner, GVMC Commissioner and Additional Election Authority Ketan Garg said on Friday.
He said 18,37,901 voters were registered within GVMC limits and arrangements were being made to establish 1,990 polling stations across 120 wards.
The Commissioner said steps were being taken to ensure coordination among election officials, Returning Officers and other personnel involved in the poll process.
Arrangements were also being made for essential infrastructure at polling stations, allocation of duties to election staff and management of election materials.
The nomination process commenced on October 16, and nominations will be accepted until 3 p.m. on October 18.
Garg advised candidates to comply with the prescribed election rules and said officials had been instructed to provide the necessary information and assistance.
He said stringent measures were being taken to enforce the Model Code of Conduct and ensure that the elections were conducted in accordance with the Election Commission's guidelines. Political parties and contesting candidates were urged to adhere to the rules and regulations.
Emphasising transparency and impartiality, Garg directed election personnel to discharge their duties efficiently without favouring any political party.
He also called for coordination among all concerned departments to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
The Commissioner said election-related information would be communicated to the public from time to time and appealed to voters, political parties and candidates to cooperate with the authorities.
Violations of the Model Code of Conduct can be reported to the GVMC control room through the toll-free number 1800 4250 0009, he added.
