AP: JNTUK signs MoU with Census directorate for establishing Census data research centre

Kakinada, May 29 (UNI): An MOU was signed on Thursday between the JNTUK and the Directorate of Census operations, for establishing a centrer for Census Micro-Data Research at the Innovation Research center (IRC) of the University.
Ms Bharathi Hollikeri, Director Census operations of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state and JNTU incharge Registrar Prof V Ravindranath signed the MOU and exchanged the documents of agreement in the presence of Vice chancellor Prof CSRK Prasad and other officials.
Vice Chancellor Prof CSRK Prasad said the MOU had paved the way for launching a Center for Census Micro-Data research at the Innovation Research centre (IRC) of the JNTUK.
He said it was a good opportunity for the JNTUK as the Census data would be used to understand the economic and social background of the people in the society.
The establishment of the Data research center will enable the computer science and engineering (CSE) and Mathematics faculty to conduct better research, analyze data and design new algorithms, he added.
The Director census operations of Two Telugu states Bharathi Hollikeri said that research centers were being set up under the auspices of the Census directorate in India since 2012 and so far 51 research centres were set up. She said the JNTUK centre was the third research centre in Andhra Pradesh.
The first census was conducted in India in 1872 and a full census was conducted in 1881.Post Independence the first census was conducted in 1951. The Census is held once every ten years and has been conducted 15 times so far and the last census being in 2011.
However, the 16th census was not conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be carried out soon using modern technology, she added. Sasikumar Deputy Registrar General, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, K Suprej, Assistant Director of Census operations also attended on behalf of the Census directorate. UNI KNR SSP
