AP:Kakinada civic body targets Rs 90 crore tax collection

Kakinada, Nov 7 (UNI) The Kakinada Municipal Corporation has launched a special drive to collect property tax, water tax and vacant land tax arrears, setting a target of Rs 90 crore for the current financial year, Municipal Commissioner NVV Satyanarayana said on Saturday.
Reviewing the tax collection drive at a special meeting, the Commissioner said water tax arrears alone had crossed Rs 8 crore and urged residents to clear their dues promptly and cooperate with the civic administration in the city's development.
He directed officials to achieve the prescribed collection targets without complacency and warned that action would be taken against water tax defaulters in accordance with the rules.
Satyanarayana said some property owners had not paid municipal taxes for the past three years. Notices were being served on defaulters who had failed to respond despite repeated reminders.
He said the corporation would be able to provide better civic amenities only with the timely payment of taxes by residents. The civic body had formulated an action plan to mobilise Rs 90 crore through tax collections during the current financial year.
Additional Commissioner K.T. Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner K. Srinivas and Revenue Wing officials attended the meeting.
