Kakinada: Prof N G Ranga remembered on 126th birth anniversary

Kakinada, Nov 7 (UNI) Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter and former MP Prof N G Ranga on his 126th birth anniversary at a function organised at the Congress office in Mandapeta constituency on Saturday.
AP State Kisan Congress Chairman Kamana Prabhakar Rao, who paid floral tributes to Ranga's portrait, recalled his contributions to the freedom struggle and farmers' welfare. He said Ranga had been imprisoned several times along with Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru during the freedom movement.
A postgraduate in Commerce from Cambridge University, Ranga authored several books on monetary reforms and was elected to Parliament nine times from Guntur, Srikakulam and Chittoor constituencies.
He was popularly known as 'Rythu Bandhu' for his dedicated efforts towards the welfare of farmers, Prabhakar Rao said.
Referring to the distress faced by farmers in Andhra Pradesh following the devastation caused by two severe cyclones, he appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to extend immediate relief to the affected farming community.
He urged the state government to waive existing agricultural loans, provide fresh interest-free loans, extend input subsidies and supply seeds and fertilisers to enable farmers to take up fresh cultivation.
He also appealed to the state and Central governments to provide financial assistance of Rs 30,000 per acre to help farmers raise fresh crops.
On the occasion, Prabhakar Rao felicitated eight farmers from neighbouring areas.
