AP: Srisailam project’s global recognition a matter of pride for Telugu States: Minister Ravi Kumar

Vijayawada, Oct 13 (UNI) The reported inclusion of the Srisailam project in the ‘World Book of Records’ is a matter of pride for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, AP Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has said, underscoring the project’s enduring contribution to power generation, irrigation and drinking water supply.
In a statement here on Tuesday, the Minister said the multipurpose reservoir had been meeting the water requirements of lakhs of people and supporting agricultural activity across the region for decades. The recognition, he said, reflected the structural resilience of the Srisailam dam, which has withstood heavy floods, as well as its engineering features and multifaceted utility.
Ravi Kumar also highlighted the role of the Pattiseema project in improving the utilisation of Krishna river water, particularly in addressing the requirements of Rayalaseema.
Crediting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s foresight for the implementation of the Pattiseema project, the Minister said the scheme had facilitated the supply of water to the Krishna Delta, thereby providing greater flexibility in utilising Srisailam waters to meet the needs of Rayalaseema.
The arrangement, he said, had helped sustain irrigation in the Krishna Delta while strengthening the availability of water for agricultural and drinking purposes in the drought-prone Rayalaseema region.
Ravi Kumar stressed that the efficient management of water resources and the prioritisation of public needs were essential to ensuring balanced regional development. He noted that the coordinated utilisation of available water resources demonstrated the importance of long-term planning in addressing the competing demands of agriculture and drinking water supply.
The reported recognition by the ‘World Book of Records’, the Minister added, underscored the engineering robustness, power generation capacity and multipurpose significance of the Srisailam project, which continues to serve as a vital water and energy resource for the Telugu-speaking States.
