AP: Three children drowned in water pit

Chittoor, May 18 (UNI) Three children, including two girls, were drowned in a water pit at Devarajapuram village of Kuppam mandal on Sunday.

Police said that for the construction of a house a huge pit was dug up on open land. The water pit was filled with water due to recent heavy rains. The three deceased children while playing entered the water pit and were drowned.

The deceased were identified as Gowthami (7), Shalini (7) and Ashwan (7). All the deceased belonged to one family. The bodies were retrieved from the water pit and shifted to the GGH in Kuppam for postmortem.

Police said that the huge pit was dug up as part of constructing the foundation for a house. A pall of gloom descended with the death of three children of the village.
