AP: YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy asks Naidu to face voters, stop blocking nominations

Tirupati, Oct 16 (UNI) YSR Congress Party Lok Sabha floor leader P V Midhun Reddy challenged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh to prove their strength through free elections instead of attacks, intimidation and obstruction of opposition nominations.
“If the Naidu headed coalition government enjoys public support, why prevent our candidates from contesting? Accept nominations, conduct fair elections and win through the people’s verdict,” he said.
Addressing the media alongside MP Gurumoorthy, former Deputy Chief Minister Narayana Swamy, former Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, former TTD Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and former MLA Madhusudhan Reddy, here on Saturday, he said victories secured by excluding opponents had no democratic legitimacy.
Midhun Reddy recalled that elections in Kuppam during Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure were conducted democratically, with political party representatives participating at every booth. He demanded the same fairness now. He charged that a returning officer refused to receive the nomination of a woman chairperson candidate, demonstrating how officials were functioning under political pressure from Naidu and Lokesh.
“Power is never permanent. Governments change and the people remain the final judges. Those misusing authority should remember that their conduct will be questioned after they lost office. Political vendettas and administrative discrimination have no place in democracy,” he asserted, adding that people were closely watching attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said the Naidu government had turned intimidation into its governing principle and was functioning like a government of goons.
Preventing opposition candidates from filing nominations through organised attacks reflected Naidu and Lokesh’s political methods, he said.
He said thousands of outsiders, including men brought from other states, were being deployed against YSRCP leaders and workers. He demanded a comprehensive investigation into incidents across Chittoor district and strict action against those responsible.
“If YSRCP is responsible for the violence, as they claim, why are our candidates unable to submit nominations?” he asked. Karunakar Reddy challenged the government to demonstrate its commitment to democracy by allowing every opposition candidate to contest. YSRCP would submit nominations again and fight the elections, he declared.
