AP: YSRCP’s demand for President’s rule only to divert public attention: TDP

Vijayawada, Oct 18 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party State President Palla Srinivasa Rao has termed the Opposition YSRCP’s demand for President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh a politically motivated ploy to divert public attention from pressing issues.
He said the party’s alleged attempts to trigger confrontations at the grassroots level while simultaneously projecting a breakdown of law and order in the State, exposed its double standards.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, he urged people to see through what he described as an attempt to mislead them by raising the bogey of President’s Rule. Referring to the criminal cases against former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP leadership, Palla Srinivasa Rao recalled that Jagan Reddy had spent 16 months in judicial custody in connection with disproportionate assets cases.
He also said people had not forgotten the conduct of the YSRCP when the CBI had earlier arrived to arrest YSRCP MP Y S Avinash Reddy. Instead of addressing the allegations against them, the party was seeking to divert public attention by demanding President’s Rule, reflecting what he described as political hypocrisy, Palla alleged.
The TDP state chief said people remained mindful of the YSRCP’s conduct during the previous elections and questioned the party’s decision to seek President’s Rule before the media while allegedly fomenting disputes at the grassroots level. “Attempts to escalate tensions for political gain and shift the blame onto the government will not be tolerated. Before lecturing others on democracy, the YSRCP should introspect on its own record during its tenure in power,” he advised.
The Chandrababu Naidu government’s objective was to ensure that every candidate could file nomination without obstruction and every voter could exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation, he observed and made it clear that those who obstructed the electoral process would face action in accordance with the law.
The TDP senior leader urged the public not to be swayed by provocative statements from the YSRCP and to assess the facts objectively. He called on the opposition party to stop trying to create political uncertainty by demanding President’s Rule.
