Arms, Explosives Recovered in Manipur; Three Held in Separate Operations

Imphal, Sep 30 (UNI) Joint teams of Manipur Police and security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosive materials from Bishnupur and Chandel districts on Wednesday, while separate operations in Churachandpur and Lilong led to the arrest of two individuals in connection with alleged extortion and vehicle theft.

In Bishnupur district, based on intelligence inputs regarding a cache of weapons and other items in and around the Khordak area, a joint team of Bishnupur District Police and security forces conducted a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) at Khordak Patton, near the Forest Beat Office under Keibul Lamjao Police Station.
During the operation, the team recovered a country-made MP-5 with a magazine, two country-made lathods, four 36 hand grenades, one country-made drone bomb, six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), five magazines of different weapons, ammunition and rounds of different calibres, besides other miscellaneous items.
In a separate operation in Chandel district, a combined team of Chandel Police and Assam Rifles conducted a search based on intelligence inputs in the general area under Molcham Police Station.
The operation led to the recovery of a hidden cache containing three single-barrel muzzle-loading (SBML) guns, one Pompi, one Chinese grenade, one locally made grenade, four dummy mortars, four detonators and two delay fuses.
The security team also recovered a container containing nine pieces of wire suspected to have been intended for use in an IED, eight pouches, one Baofeng communication set, one 5.56 mm M416 round, one 9 mm round and two bullet-proof covers. The recovered items were handed over to Molcham Police Station for further necessary legal action.
Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, a team of Churachandpur Police Station launched an operation based on intelligence inputs regarding alleged extortion activities and apprehended an individual from Khomoi village. The person was identified as Letginthang Haokip, of St. Chullouphai village in Churachandpur district. According to police, he admitted to allegedly extorting money from members of the public in the name of different armed organisations.
In another case, Lilong Police arrested an alleged vehicle lifter, identified as Md. Mustakim, of Lilong Chaobak Mairenkhun, on Wednesday. Police said he was arrested from his residence along with a stolen two wheeler.
