Armstrong murder : Madras HC dismiss suspended cop's bail plea in Rs 40 lakh extortion case

Chennai, Oct 1 (UNI) The Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of suspended police inspector Mohammed Buhari, who was arrested for allegedly threatening a businessman with being implicated in the Armstrong murder case and extorting Rs.40 lakh from him.
Buhari, the inspector at Pallikaranai Police Station, and Srinivasan, a member of the Friends of Police organisation, were arrested by the Elephant Gate police on charges of threatening Chennai-based businessman Akhil Kumar Ukkam Raj that he would be implicated in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president K.Armstrong and extorting Rs.40 lakh from him.
Buhari had earlier approached the Principal Sessions Court seeking bail twice, but both the petitions were dismissed. Subsequently, he moved the Madras High Court seeking bail.
When the petition came up for hearing, Justice N Ramesh after hearing detailed arguments dismissed Buhari’s plea.
Buhari was part of the special team that investigated the 2024 murder of Armstrong. He allegedly threatened the bizman claiming his former mobile number surfaced in the murder probe, and extorted around Rs 40 lakh from him. He was arrested on August 4, 2026 and Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj ordered Buhari's suspension following his arrest.
