Army Chief honours Subedar (Retd) Wangnam Hakhun Nokte

Itanagar, June 25 (UNI) In a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh and the entire northeastern region, Subedar (Retd) Wangnam Hakhun Nokte of the 6 Assam Regiment has been conferred the prestigious Veteran Achievers Award by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in New Delhi.
Subedar Nokte served the nation with distinction from February 1976 to March 2002, undertaking numerous critical roles during his tenure in the Indian Army. Post-retirement, he has remained steadfast in his dedication to public service, emerging as a strong pillar of community leadership and rural development.
From 2013 to 2018, he served as the gram panchayat chairperson, and for the past two years, he has been an active member of the interim panchayat committee of Bera village. His contributions have been pivotal in the implementation of various panchayat schemes, reflecting his enduring spirit of service and grassroots commitment.
Significantly, Subedar Nokte is the sole awardee from the entire northeast among the three Indian veterans honoured this year, making this recognition even more remarkable for the region, official sources said today.
