Arunachal: Accused arrested in POCSO case, sent to 4 days’ police custody

Itanagar, June 12 (UNI) The Itanagar Police has arrested 41-year-old man, Tai Shiva, in connection with a case of alleged sexual molestation of a minor girl, police said on Thursday.
According to police sources, the incident is reported to have taken place in March 2025.
The matter came to light after the victim’s parents noticed behavioural changes in the 13-year-old
girl, leading to the lodging of a formal complaint on June 11, at Women Police Station, Itanagar.
Subsequently, a case (No. 43/2025) was registered WPS, Itanagar under Sections 74 and 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Acting swiftly, the investigation team led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) SI Tage Ami, along with SI Samuel Ngupok, SI Padam Padi, and constable Sandeep Yadav, arrested the accused from Doimukh the same night as he was purportedly attempting to flee.
The accused, Tai Shiva, is reported to hold the position of president in the Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe Forum.
Given the seriousness of the offence and the requirement for custodial interrogation to establish the sequence of events, the Special Judge (POCSO), Yupia, has remanded the accused to four days of police custody to facilitate further investigation and evidence collection.
The police assured the public of a fair, thorough, and sensitive investigation, and assured that the identity of the minor victim and her family is being strictly protected in accordance with legal provisions.
Authorities have also appealed to the public to respect the due process of law and refrain from any speculation or dissemination of information that could compromise the privacy and dignity of the minor.
