NSCN (K-YA) cadre arrested in Arunachal

Itanagar, June 13 (UNI) In a significant breakthrough against insurgent activities, an intelligence-led operation jointly conducted by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police resulted in the arrest of a key NSCN (K-YA) member in Old Kothung village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.
The arrest was made on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, Tirap district Superintendent of Police (SP) Singjatla Singpho said on Friday.
The arrested individual has been identified as self-styled (SS) captain Kamwang Chakhtey. He has been associated with the banned outfit since 1995, the SP said.
During the operation, security forces recovered a revolver, a hand grenade, live ammunition, organizational stamps, and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. These recoveries confirm his involvement in extortion, underground operations, and continued communication with the outfit’s leadership.
The apprehended individual and all seized items have been handed over to the police authorities.
The authorities stated that this operation strikes a major blow to NSCN (K-YA)’s local network and demonstrates the coordinated commitment of the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Police to ensuring peace and security in the region.
The successful apprehension also reflects growing public trust in security forces’ efforts to curb insurgency and restore normalcy in the affected districts, they added.
