Arunachal CM condoles landslide deaths, urges people to avoid non-essential travel

Itanagar, May 31 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed deep sorrow over the reported deaths of at least nine individuals — seven in East Kameng district and two in Ziro Valley — due to massive landslides triggered by incessant monsoon rains since the last few days across the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls. “My heart goes out to the departed souls. Our prayers are with them,” he said.
With forecasts predicting continued heavy rainfall in the coming days, the Chief Minister urged citizens to remain alert and exercise utmost caution. He appealed to the public to avoid non-essential travel, especially during nighttime, and advised residents in vulnerable areas to relocate to safer places.
As almost all rivers, rivulets and streams across the state are in spate, Khandu also warned against venturing into water bodies. He assured that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and that all relevant departments are on high alert to respond swiftly to emergencies.
“Let’s maintain extreme caution and remain vigilant to avoid further loss of lives,” the Chief Minister added.
