Arunachal: Public hearing on heritage development held at Thembang Fortified Village

Thembang, May 22 (UNI) A public meeting-cum-hearing was convened on Thursday at Thembang Fortified Village in West Kameng district, which is currently on UNESCO’s final tentative list of World Heritage Sites.
The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dirang, Choiki Dondup, aimed at discussing various measures for the conservation and development of the historic site, official sources said.
In his address, ADC Dondup urged the Local Consultative Committee (LCC) to prepare a comprehensive master plan in consultation with the Research Department, ensuring that all guidelines are meticulously followed.
He assured villagers that all works to be undertaken would maintain full transparency and adhere
to high-quality standards. He also appealed to the villagers to maintain cleanliness in the village
and refrain from illegal tree felling, which poses a silent threat to the local environment.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Director of the Research Department, Bultan Dutta, provided insights into the Comprehensive Site Management Plan, addressing queries and concerns raised
by villagers and participants.
He further emphasized the importance of forming a local-level heritage cell to facilitate effective implementation of the site management plan.
Also present were Assistant Director of the Research Dept Radhe Yampi, Thembang Circle Officer Moyir Kato, ZPM Jam Tsering, members of the LCC, senior leaders, PRI members, villagers, and other stakeholders, all of whom shared their perspectives and inputs.
The local administration, along with nodal departments, responded to public queries, ensuring transparency and active community engagement in the proposed heritage development initiatives, sources added.
