Arunachal rises as emerging food processing hub

Itanagar, Jun 24 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh is fast emerging as a key player in India’s food processing sector, driven by strategic initiatives, unique agro-climatic advantages, and a commitment to uplifting farming communities.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu reaffirmed the state’s vision to transform its agricultural strengths into economic opportunities, highlighting ongoing efforts to build robust infrastructure and value chains.
“Arunachal Pradesh is committed to becoming a key force in India’s food processing sector. With our rich natural produce and dedicated farming communities, we are now building the infrastructure and value chains needed to ensure that what we grow uplifts every hand that nurtures it,” Khandu said in a statement.
Highlighting the state’s potential, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has recognized Arunachal Pradesh as a fast-emerging contributor to India’s food processing landscape. The state currently leads the country in Kiwi production, is home to GI-tagged mandarins from Wakro, and ranks as the fourth-largest producer of black cardamom.
“From our orchards to the global market, we are focused on adding value at the source, empowering our people, and unlocking new opportunities for growth,” CM Khandu added.
With its pristine climate, rich biodiversity, and a growing focus on post-harvest infrastructure and market linkages, Arunachal Pradesh is poised to become a hub for high-value food processing and agri-based entrepreneurship in the Northeastern region.
