Itanagar, June 24 (UNI) In a major breakthrough under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of West Siang District Police on Monday arrested a suspected drug peddler, reportedly a school teacher, with 8.71 grams of suspected heroin in Aalo.
Acting on intelligence inputs regarding illegal drug activities in and around the Pakam III area of Aalo, the ADS conducted multiple raids and detained the accused, Bili Potom, from an OBT quarter, police said on Tuesday.
On-spot interrogation and confrontation with evidence led the accused to confess that he is both
a drug addict and has been involved in drug peddling for the past two years, according to the Superintendent of Police, West Siang.
The raid resulted in the seizure of heroin packed in five tobacco containers, three syringes and Rs 13,100 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales. The search operation was conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate Jumkar Karbi and two independent witnesses, as per legal protocol.
Preliminary investigation further revealed that the accused Bili Potom is an IT teacher appointed under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in 2023, and is currently posted at Government Secondary School, Pakam.
A case has been registered at Aalo PS (Case No. 35/25) under Sections 21(b)/27 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify possible co-accused, the SP informed.
Commending the ADS team’s efforts, the SP reiterated the department’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district and appealed to the public for continued support in this collective fight against drugs.
