Guwahati, June 7 (UNI) The Assam police on Saturday arrested two persons from Assam's Kamrup and Goalpara districts for making offensive and communally sensitive comments on social media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on his X handle.
"Update on crackdown against anti-national and communal elements, 90 arrests till now. Goalpara Police arrested Sanidul Islam for an offensive social media post on Lord Ram. The Kamrup police arrested Saniur Rahman, alias sunnybhai, for inciting communal discord through SM (social media)," said Sarma on his X handle.
The Assam government launched this crackdown against anti-nationals since the recent Pehalgam attack in April this year. The police had also arrested AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam for reportedly defending Pakistan over the Pahalgam attack.
While the Kamrup police have apprehended Saniur Rahman, alias Sunny Bhai of Pathalipara, Boko, Kamrup, for posting a communally offensive comment on Instagram, the Goalpara police have arrested Sanidul Islam, who had tried to hurt the religious sentiments of people by using abusive language against Lord Ram.
