Badminton: Sindhu, Anmol set up all-Indian semifinal; Lakshya also enters last four

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) India will have a guaranteed representative in the women's singles final of the Hylo Open Super 500 after P V Sindhu and Anmol Kharb booked their places in the semifinals with contrasting victories in Saarbrücken on Friday.
Lakshya Sen also kept India's hopes alive in the men's singles, battling past Finland's Kalle Koljonen to reach the last four.

Sindhu made short work of Germany's Amalie Schulz, registering a 21-12, 21-10 win in 28 minutes. Coming off a runner-up finish at the French Open, the double Olympic medallist maintained her momentum and controlled the match from the outset, taking 42 of the 64 points played.

Her next opponent will be Anmol, who had to work much harder to get past sixth seed Unnati Hooda. The youngster recovered from losing the second game to prevail 21-17, 18-21, 21-16 in a contest lasting an hour and eight minutes.

The all-Indian semifinal means one of the two will advance to the title round, giving India a chance to fight for the women's singles crown.
Sen, meanwhile, showed resilience to overcome a slow start against Koljonen. After losing the opening game 14-21, the former World Championships bronze medallist raised his intensity to take the next two 21-17, 21-13 and complete the 66-minute contest.
The top-ranked Indian in the men's singles will now face France's Toma Junior Popov for a place in the final.
