Bandi Sanjay alleges injustice in Telangana’s drought-affected mandal list

Hyderabad, Oct 28 (UNI) union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday criticised the Telangana government over the declaration of drought-affected mandals, alleging that several areas with significant rainfall deficits, particularly in the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency, had been excluded from the list.
In a statement, he questioned the criteria used to identify drought-affected mandals and alleged that the selection process was unscientific. He pointed out that even mandals with a 35 per cent rainfall deficit had been left out, despite reports of barren fields and drinking water shortages.
Referring to the Husnabad, Vemulawada, Sircilla, Manakondur, Choppadandi and Huzurabad constituencies, Bandi Sanjay asked whether rainfall levels, crop losses, cultivated areas, soil moisture and groundwater conditions had been assessed uniformly across the state.
He demanded that the government make public the data and scientific criteria used to identify drought-affected mandals. He also called for complaints from farmers in excluded areas to be examined and eligible mandals to be included in the list in accordance with established guidelines.
Stressing that drought declarations should be based on ground realities rather than political considerations, he urged the government to provide appropriate relief to drought-hit farmers and ensure employment opportunities for the poor. He warned that any injustice to farmers and economically weaker sections would have serious consequences.
