Bathukamma reflects Telangana’s cultural heritage and traditions: Governor

Hyderabad, Oct. 15 (UNI) Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday said Bathukamma, the State’s floral festival, symbolised its cultural heritage, women’s creativity and reverence for nature while promoting social harmony.
The Governor, accompanied by his wife Janaki Shukla, participated in Bathukamma celebrations at Lok Bhavan and offered special prayers to Goddess Gauramma for Telangana’s prosperity and the peace, happiness, good health and well-being of its people.
Describing Bathukamma as a celebration of nature through the worship of flowers, Shukla said the floral arrangements reflected the beauty of the natural world and the close bond between humanity and nature.
The festival also highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and responsible use of natural resources, he said.
The Governor emphasised the role of women in preserving traditional folk songs, art forms and customs, and called for passing on the cultural heritage to future generations.
He urged people to contribute to Telangana’s progress by promoting environmental protection, women’s empowerment and social harmony.
He expressed hope that the festival would strengthen bonds of affection and unity among people.
Around 400 women, including artists from Telangana Samskruthika Sarathi, women employees of Lok Bhavan and their family members, participated in the celebrations.
The participants gathered around floral arrangements representing Goddess Gauramma, singing traditional songs, clapping and dancing.
Janaki Shukla, along with women employees, later immersed the Bathukammas in a pond on the Lok Bhavan premises.
The celebrations also featured kolatam performances and devotional offerings, while colourful decorative lighting added to the festive atmosphere.
Lok Bhavan Joint Secretary K. Shashi Kiran Komandur, Deputy Secretary G. Pallavi, Press Secretary M. Dasharatham and other officials and employees attended the event.
