Bengal: 25 tonnes of suspected fake Super XT 600 TMT bars seized in Purulia

Purulia, Sep 27 (UNI) The West Bengal District Enforcement Branch (DEB) and local police have seized 25 tonnes of suspected counterfeit Super XT 600 TMT bars from a manufacturing plant in Purulia district.
Following the raid, a criminal case was registered against Amit Kumar Tulsian, Manish Kumar Aggarwal and Anirudh Rakshit, directors and additional director of Purulia Ispat Alloy Pvt Ltd.
Acting on a specific tip-off, Nituria police conducted a late-night raid on Friday at the Purulia Ispat Alloy Pvt Ltd factory in the Saltore area. During the operation, the authorities recovered 25 tonnes of TMT bars allegedly being sold under the "Super XT 600" brand.
The DEB has initiated an investigation into the alleged manufacture and distribution network of the counterfeit products.
The police action followed a complaint lodged by Totan Chakraborty, the Patna-based Zonal Head of IP Legal and Surveillance Services Private Limited.
Nituria police station registered FIR Case No. 150/26 against the three executives of Purulia Ispat. The accused have been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Copyright Act, 1957, including BNS Sections 318(4), 316(2), 319, 341 and 61(2), and Sections 63, 64 and 65 of the Copyright Act.
According to the complainant, a market surveillance survey conducted on Friday found that Purulia Ispat Alloy Pvt Ltd was allegedly functioning as a supplier, manufacturer, wholesaler and dealer of counterfeit Super XT 600 TMT bars. The complaint alleged that the company was manufacturing and storing the products within the jurisdiction of Nituria police station.
The complainant further alleged that the activities were causing financial losses to the brand owner and affecting its market reputation, besides claiming that the manufacturers and suppliers were part of a larger network involved in the distribution of counterfeit products for commercial gain.
Purulia Superintendent of Police Kumar Sunny Raj confirmed that the investigation had been handed over to the DEB, with Sub-Inspector Asit Baran Hazra appointed as the investigating officer.
Further investigation and technical examination of the seized material are underway, while the DEB is also tracing the supply chain to determine the source and extent of the alleged counterfeit operation. UNI DC NST CDS
