Bengal: Bailey Bridge at Sirwani permitted for light vehicles

Siliguri, Oct 8 (UNI) The Bailey Bridge of the Teesta-VI Hydroelectric Project at Sirwani, Singtam, has been permitted for use by light motor vehicles following successful completion of load testing, according to an official notification issued by the Namchi District Police on Thursday.
The order, issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Namchi District, under Section 159(2) of the Sikkim Police Act, 2008, stated that the Bailey Bridge would henceforth be used exclusively by Light Motor Vehicles.
The notification said the bridge had earlier been temporarily closed after it was found deflected in the mid-portion and had swayed from its original position, making it vulnerable for vehicular and pedestrian movement.
According to the order, NHPC Limited, Teesta-VI HE Project, informed the authorities that load testing of the Bailey Bridge was successfully completed on September 25 in accordance with standard guidelines and IRC-6.
The order further directed that all classes of heavy vehicles travelling between Namchi and Gangtok districts, in both directions, would use the deck slab of the barrage.
