Bengal: Thalapathy Vijay's TVK opens first office in East Burdwan

Burdwan, Sep 27 (UNI) In a surprising move reflecting its Pan India ambitions, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) opened its first party office in East Burdwan in West Bengal on Sunday, marking the beginning of its organisational activities in the district.
The party though is yet to establish its presence in neighbouring Birbhum, Bankura and Purulia districts.
TVK West Bengal state coordinator Chaitali Roy said, "Instructions came from Tamil Nadu to connect with common people through welfare activities in states where the party organisation is being formed. Following that directive, social work is being given priority in the initial phase of organisational expansion in West Bengal as well."
Party leaders from several districts who were present at the inauguration, said their immediate focus would be on reaching out to people through social work rather than political programmes. They said various welfare activities would be undertaken to expand the organisation and establish direct contact with people.
With the inauguration of the office in Fagupur locality, the party's organisational activities in East Burdwan formally began, the leadership said.
TVK leaders and fans in Tamil Nadu had recently spoken about the actor turned politician Vijay affectionately called Thalapathy, gradually growing in political stature to come into national prominence as a prospestive Prime Minister inviting ridicule from the main Dravidian parties.
