Bengal: Three arrested after TMC office vandalised in Suri in Anubrata Mondal's presence

Suri, Sep 30 (UNI) Three youths were arrested on Wednesday after a Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office near the Suri old bus stand was vandalised in the presence of the party's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal.
The incident took place when Mondal visited the party office for the first time since the declaration of election results to hold a closed-door meeting with local party leaders. According to eyewitnesses, three youths, their faces covered and carrying thick tree branches and sticks, entered the air-conditioned office and allegedly began vandalising the premises.
They smashed furniture, broke chairs and shattered glass window panes. The main glass table in front of Mondal was also damaged. Local sources said flying glass shards caused minor injuries to the veteran politician. Reports of the incident also said the youths confronted Mondal and threatened him against returning to Suri.
Mondal was seen trying to calm the youths, but his appeals were allegedly ignored.
Birbhum SP Vidit Raj Bhundesh was not available for comment till the time of reporting.
Following the commotion, a large police contingent reached the spot and apprehended the three youths. Police later questioned them about the incident. The youths reportedly said they did not belong to any political party and described their actions as an outburst against what they called "15 years of continuous exploitation" under Mondal's influence.
Following the attack, Mondal sought immediate police reinforcement and later left for Bolpur, his hometown, under police escort. The district police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident and the reasons behind the attack.
Mondal, who had earlier enjoyed Y-Plus security cover from the West Bengal Police, lost the security cover after the change of government. In July this year, he joined the TMC faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee and was appointed its Birbhum district president.
Recent reports also said three youths entered the Suri TMC office while Mondal was present and vandalised furniture and the glass table before police detained them. UNI DC NST CDS
