Voters left out in SIR can reapply without 2002-roll details: CEC Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1(UNI) Eligible citizens whose names are missing from the electoral rolls can continue to seek enrolment through Form 6 even after completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026, the election authorities here said on Thursday, amid controversy over the additional requirements attached to the form during the revision exercise.
The Form 6 requirement had become a contentious issue during the SIR, with concerns being raised over the need for applicants to furnish details linked to the 2002 electoral roll and establish whether their parents or grandparents figured in the earlier roll. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has now removed the additional declaration relating to the 2002 roll from Form 6 for post-SIR applications.
Consequently, eligible citizens whose names were omitted during the SIR will not have to furnish details of the 2002 electoral roll, or information on whether their parents or grandparents were listed in it, while applying afresh through Form 6.
The change means such applicants can seek enrolment through the normal procedure without the additional 2002-roll declaration. However, submission of Form 6 alone will not guarantee automatic inclusion in the electoral roll.
The applicant’s eligibility and the information and documents furnished with the application will continue to be subjected to the prescribed verification process. The concerned election authorities will take a decision on inclusion only after completing the required checks in accordance with the law and rules.
No name will be added to the electoral roll without completion of the prescribed verification process, the authorities said.
The existing mechanism for enrolment through Form 6 remains in force. Eligible citizens whose names are absent from the current electoral roll can therefore apply for voter registration by following the prescribed procedure.
The State poll authorities said all applications would be scrutinised under the prescribed rules to maintain the accuracy, integrity and transparency of the electoral rolls while ensuring that all eligible citizens have an opportunity to register as voters.UNI MK AAB
