Bharat Mata image: Violence erupts at University campus ahead of Governor's function

Thiruvananthapuram, June 25 (UNI) Violence erupted at the Kerala University campus after SFI activists clashed with police and BJP-RSS workers demanding the removal of a photo of Bharat Mata from the venue of a book release function attended by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar here today.
The function at the University Senate Hall was organised by the Shri Padmanabh Seva Samiti for releasing a book based on the Emergency and honouring the anti-Emergency fighters.
Later, the SFI workers staged a sit-in before the University main gate opposing the function displaying the image of Bharat Mata.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of the University claimed that the organisers of the event violated norms by showing religious symbols while conducting a private function at the Senate Hall.
There were reports that the Registrar informed the Raj Bhavan about the violation of norms and conveyed his decision to cancel the programme. However, the Governor reached the University and entered the Senate Hall to attend the event. The function was held without removing the image of Bharat Mata.
Earlier, the BJP-RSS workers also clashed with police alleging that criminals entered the hall with the support of a few cops. UNI DS SSP
