Bihar: EC withdraws additional declaration for voter enrolment after SIR

Patna, Oct 1 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has issued fresh directions regarding enrolment of new voters in electoral rolls, clarifying that the requirement to submit an additional declaration along with Form 6 has been withdrawn in states where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been completed.
Source at the Chief Electoral Officer, Bihar said here that the Election Commission issued the directions in this regard on September 29.
The Commission said eligible citizens whose names are not included in the electoral roll and who wish to get themselves enrolled would not be required to submit the additional declaration separately in states where the SIR exercise has been completed.
However, the provision of submitting the declaration along with Form 6 will continue to apply in states and union Territories where the SIR process is currently underway, the Commission clarified.
In accordance with the directions, all District Election Officers, Assistant District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers have been informed about the revised procedure.
The concerned officials have also been directed to disseminate information among eligible citizens regarding the facility to enrol their names in the electoral rolls.
The Commission has further directed the authorities to undertake an enrolment drive to include the names of eligible voters who have been left out as well as newly eligible electors in the electoral rolls, and to ensure necessary action in this regard.
Form 6 is the prescribed application form through which eligible citizens can apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll.
