Bihar: Rs 112.14 cr transferred to 1.6 lakh families in flood relief

Patna, Oct 12 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday transferred Rs 112.14 crore directly into the bank accounts of 160,201 flood-affected families in the second phase of ex-gratia relief distribution.
While transferring the amount, the CM said that each eligible family received Rs 7,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. In the first phase, on September 15, the state government transferred Rs 614.03 crore to 877,190 flood-affected families at the rate of Rs 7,000 per family. With the latest transfer, a total of 1,037,391 families have received flood relief amounting to Rs 726.17 crore.
Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister said that relief and rescue operations had been carried out by the departments concerned and district administrations during the floods. He directed all district magistrates to identify eligible flood-affected families who had been left out of the relief distribution process and ensure that they were included so that no eligible family was deprived of government assistance.
Choudhary announced that farmers affected by floods would receive agricultural input grants for crop losses on October 14, ahead of the Dussehra festival. He also instructed officials to prioritise the repair and restoration of roads and other infrastructure damaged by the floods. The work must be completed before Diwali to ensure that people do not face difficulties in transportation and their daily activities, he said.
Emphasising the need for a permanent solution to the recurring flood problem, the Chief Minister said that concrete, long-term plans were being developed to minimise flood-related damage in the future.
