Bihar: SC orders Anant Singh to surrender in Dularchand Yadav murder case

New Delhi / Patna, Oct 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed Mokama MLA Anant Singh to surrender and return to jail by December 1 in the Dularchand Yadav murder case, granting him temporary relief to attend his daughter Shivangi Singh's wedding on November 25.
The court also asked the Bihar government to complete its investigation into the case within four months.
A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B. Varale issued the directions while hearing the matter. The case will be taken up for further hearing after the investigation is completed.
Reacting to the order, Singh said he respected the Supreme Court's decision and would surrender as directed. However, he renewed his allegations against JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar, claiming that he had been falsely implicated in the murder case despite not being present at the crime scene.
Singh alleged that Neeraj Kumar had orchestrated the filing of the case in Delhi after his release from jail on bail granted by the Patna High Court. Neeraj denied the allegations, pointing out that Dularchand Yadav's grandson is also named Neeraj Kumar.
Singh was released from jail on March 19 after the Patna High Court granted him bail. Subsequently, Dularchand's grandson approached the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail. His lawyers argued that the High Court had failed to adequately consider Singh's criminal antecedents while granting him relief.
Reacting to the Supreme Court's order, RJD MP Sanjay Yadav accused the state government of double standards. He alleged that the government protects those who support it while targeting those who oppose it, describing Singh's case as an example.
The case has also triggered political repercussions within the JD(U). Singh was expelled from the party for six years after adopting a rebellious stance during the Bihar Legislative Council elections. The party also cancelled the primary membership of his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, over alleged anti-party activities and expelled her for six years. Neelam Devi was subsequently removed from the 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee, resulting in the loss of her Minister of State status. The JD(U) has also approached Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar seeking Anant Singh's disqualification.
Dularchand Yadav was murdered on October 30, 2025, during the Bihar Assembly election campaign. He was campaigning in Mokama's Taal area for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi when the latter's convoy reportedly crossed paths with Anant Singh's convoy. Dularchand was shot and subsequently run over by a vehicle.
Following the murder, his grandson Neeraj Kumar had vowed to pursue the case until Singh was convicted.
