Bihar to constitute mining police force to curb illegal mining, sand and stone smuggling

Aurangabad, Oct 5 ( UNI) Bihar Mines and Geology and Art and Culture Minister Dr Pramod Kumar Chandravanshi on Monday announced to constitute a dedicated mining police force to check illegal mining and curb the smuggling of sand, stone and other minerals in the state.
Chandravanshi told news persons here that the formation of the mining police would expedite raids, investigations and arrests in cases related to illegal mining and violations of mining rules. At present, police personnel are assigned multiple responsibilities, resulting in delays in making a force available for action by the Mining and Geology Department, he said. The recruitment and formation of a dedicated mining police force would address the issue, the minister added.
The state government will also use technology to strengthen surveillance and enforcement in mining areas. Weighbridges will be installed at mining ghats, while cameras and drones will be deployed to monitor mining activities, Chandravanshi said.
He said the measures would help keep a closer watch on activities in mining areas and contribute to an increase in mining revenue.
The minister also said the government plans to revive the stone industry in the state. Stone mining will be resumed in districts including Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada and Jamui, he said, adding that the move would facilitate construction activities and increase revenue for the state government.
As Art and Culture Minister, Chandravanshi also said work was underway on a plan to construct Atal Kala Bhawans in every district, with an estimated cost of Rs 19 crore for each building, aimed at promoting art and culture in Bihar.
