Lucknow, May 31 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the champion of inflation and its government should first reduce "profiteering' and "donations' and then talk about reducing inflation.

In a statement issued here, Akhilesh Yadav said that the public should also get the benefit of a reduction in import duty on edible oil, not just the domestic producers. "If the cost is decreasing, then the retail price should also decrease. Is it not that this superficial import duty reduction is only for the benefit of some special importers and producers, not for the public?" he said.

He said that at least this proves that the BJP government has accepted that the rampant inflation has broken the back of the public, and now if this record-breaking inflation is not stopped, then the public will start banging empty oil cans outside the houses of BJP leaders.

The SP chief said that the BJP government should logically fix the cost-profit ratio of food items in favour of the public, meaning it should decide on public interest that no food producer will earn profit more than a certain percentage, but for this, the BJP government will first have to take an oath that it will not collect 'BJP donations' at least from food companies because when it collects donations from companies, the companies consider the money collected as part of the cost and collect it from the public.

He said, "Every tax and donation is ultimately collected from the public. That is why 'BJP donations', apart from tax, become a double blow of the BJP on the public and also the reason for inflation. Now, economists should make a new mathematical formula to add 'BJP donations' to the selling price. If the BJP stops collecting donations, the prices of every commodity and service will automatically come down."

Akhilesh said that 'price cap' has never been in the business mindset of the BJP. "To control inflation, the intention and will to do good for the people is necessary, which a profiteering government like the BJP, which has come to power to fulfil the goals of corruption, never has," he said.

He said, "That is why such announcements will be beneficial only when the import duty is reduced and the prices of goods also come down for the public. Now it remains to be seen whether the news of the fall in the prices of edible oils comes after a few days or else the oil will disappear from the plate of the poor. The poor say today, they don't want BJP," he said.
