BJP has failed to fulfill several electoral promises: Naveen Patnaik

Puri, June 18 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today strongly criticised the BJP government in Odisha, accusing it of failing to fulfil many of its electoral promises.
Launching the Jana Jagaran Yatra virtually at a gathering of hundreds of BJD youth and student leaders held at the Swaminarayan Temple premises, Patnaik said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has done "precious little" to honor the commitments it made to the people before the elections.
He alleged that the BJP government has merely renamed various BJD-initiated projects and halted several key welfare schemes, such as the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), only to rebrand them under different names.
"The BJP is spreading lies about these projects. I have complete trust in our youth and students – they will go to the people and make them aware of the BJP's falsehoods," Patnaik said while addressing BJD workers.
He further pointed out that multiple mega projects had been executed in Puri to develop it as an international heritage destination, but the current government, even after a year in office, has failed to maintain them properly.
Citing a growing law and order crisis, Patnaik said, "Crimes against women are increasing, including frequent incidents of gang rape. People are dying after consuming mango kernels and spurious liquor. The government has failed to resolve the Polavaram issue or create employment opportunities, and sexual violence against minors is also on the rise. An epidemic has now broken out in six districts."
He accused the BJP of breaking pre-election promises, such as providing 300 units of free electricity, increasing pension amounts for senior citizens, and ending katni-chhatni (deductions) in paddy procurement.
“The so-called double-engine government has reduced the state budget by 18 percent. This clearly reflects poor governance and the BJP’s failure to deliver,” the BJD chief said.
Patnaik claimed that while the BJP is celebrating the completion of its first year in office, BJD workers will travel across the state to expose the truth and raise awareness among the public.
Senior BJD leaders, including Debi Mishra, Sanjay Kumar Dasburma, Arun Sahoo, Subhasis Khuntia (Rajya Sabha MP), local MLA Sunil Mohanty, and many student and youth leaders of the party participated in the youth conclave. UNI XC DP SSP
