BJP holds preparatory meeting for upcoming Tripura urban bodies’ elections

Agartala, Oct 28 (UNI) The ruling BJP in Tripura held a high-level meeting to assess preparations for the upcoming urban local body elections and finalise the political campaign in line with directives from the party's central leadership.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and West Tripura Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb, Rajya Sabha Member Rajib Bhattacharjee, cabinet ministers, MLAs, and eminent party officials, BJP organisational general secretary for Assam and Tripura, Rabindra Raju, as well as the newly appointed Tripura in-charge, Mriganka Deo Barman.
Dr Saha said the discussions focused on preparations for the civic polls and the execution of the party's political programs. It elaborated that the BJP plans to initiate campaigns in a phased manner throughout the state, which will encompass foot marches, engagement activities with young voters, and media interactions.
The Loksabha MP Deb contended that opposition parties are making concerted efforts to weaken democratic institutions by protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Accusing the Left of undermining the institutional framework of democracy, Deb asserted that the BJP would craft an appropriate response to what he characterized as attempts to destabilize the nation.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy expressed unwavering confidence that the party would secure victories in all municipal corporations, municipal councils, and Nagar Panchayats in the forthcoming urban local body elections.
He said poll preparations were in full swing and that the list of candidates would be released shortly, although he refrained from providing a specific date. He stated, 'We are 100 percent confident of victory,' attributing this optimism to the development initiatives implemented by the state government under the leadership of Dr Saha.
Debroy highlighted various infrastructure projects and improvements in road connectivity. Regarding the SIR exercise, he characterized the revision of electoral rolls as a constitutional process, accusing the Congress and CPI (M) of misleading the populace for their own political advantage.
He alleged that both parties are attempting to regain power by allying. When questioned about whether internal disagreements within the BJP could potentially impact its electoral prospects, Debroy asserted that the party adheres to organizational discipline and that its members would comply with collective decisions.
