Bengaluru/Hubballi, Apr 27 (UNI) BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday condemned Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent remarks on Pakistan, calling them "unfortunate and shameful".

Chugh said, "At a time when the nation is united in the fight against terrorism, the statement of Congress leader CM Siddaramaiah is hurting the morale of the nation."

Siddaramaiah had said that "India should not take severe action against Pakistan", after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP leader stressed the importance of standing behind the Central Government and the armed forces in their efforts against terrorism, especially in light of the recent brutal killings of civilians by terrorists. "It is crucial that we, as a united force, stand behind our military and the Central Government in these challenging times," Chugh added.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, also speaking in Bengaluru, criticised Siddaramaiah’s statement as "highly condemnable and objectionable."

He questioned, "Who are we to take this call? It is for the Army and the leadership of the government to decide."

Surya further stated, "For those who have massacred our people brutally, if we don't take action against them, should we do aarti? Should we give them awards? Should we call them here and felicitate them in front of the Vidhan Sabha?"

In a similar vein, BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginkai in Hubballi emphasised national unity, highlighting that the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was taking the right steps in response to the Pahalgam incident.

"Whether war is waged or not, it is our job to support the Centre’s decision. We don’t want war, but when such a situation arises, we have to be united," Tenginkai added.

While paying tributes to victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 persons were killed, the Karnataka CM is quoted as having said on Saturday, “There is no need for war, stringent measures should be taken. The security system needs to be tightened. We are not in favour of war. There should be peace, people should have security, and the central government should take security measures.”

However, the Pakistan media has reportedly been playing up Siddaramaiah’s comments.
