BJP's tensions rise over SIR and UGC issues ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections

Lucknow, Sept 30 (UNI) Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, concerns have emerged within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over issues such as the Special Intensive Review (SIR), new University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, and allegations of embezzlement in Ayodhya. The party's newly appointed state in-charges on Tuesday shared their concerns with National President Nitin Nabin.
This was the first formal group meeting of the newly appointed in-charges and co-in-charges following the recent major reshuffle in the organisation. Nabin asked the in-charges to openly present the ground situation in the states. According to BJP sources, in-charges from election-bound states, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur, raised SIR as a potential election issue.
They said that the opposition's raising of issues related to the revision of voter lists and the Election Commission is creating confusion and apprehension among the public. Some in-charges from North India also expressed concern about the new UGC regulations and stressed the need for immediate action in this regard.
The issue of alleged theft of offerings in Ayodhya also came up for discussion during the meeting. In-charges expressed their concerns to the leadership regarding this matter. Nabin urged the in-charges to provide factual answers to the negative information being spread by the opposition.
He also directed them to present the Election Commission's position regarding the SIR to the public. He also directed them to take strict measures to prevent infighting, internal conflicts, and sabotage in the electoral states.
The issue of ongoing discussions regarding the alleged distance between Uttar Pradesh and Delhi also came up during the meeting. One in-charge stated that such reports create problems for the party.
Regarding this, Nabin stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has the full blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that such misleading information should be countered.
He told Bihar in-charge Harish Dwivedi that Bihar must be viewed from a different perspective than Uttar Pradesh, and that strategies should be formulated keeping in mind the caste situation there.
Nabin instructed in-charges to regularly visit states, increase direct communication with youth, and prioritise their opinions in booth-level meetings.
He said that along with conveying the expectations of youth to state governments, their details should also be given to the central leadership. He also gave a clear message regarding the differences between the government and the organisation in the ruling states.
Meanwhile, a BJP MLA in Uttar Pradesh also acknowledged that the UGC issue has reached every village. This issue could create problems for the party in the upcoming elections. The party has received feedback on this matter. If the misconceptions about UGC are not dispelled, especially among upper caste voters, the party could suffer significant losses.
Notably, National Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh, National Co-Organisation General Secretary Shiv Prakash, and Saudan Singh were also present at the nearly four-hour meeting at the national party headquarters on Tuesday.
