BJP's Uttarakhand chief set to be re-elected first time in party's history

Dehradun, June 30 (UNI) Uttarakhand BJP president Mahendra Bhatt is set to be re-elected for another term as the party began its much awaited electioneering process today.
Bhatt was the only candidate to file nomination within the stipulated period allocated by election officials.
Bhatt, also a Rajya Sabha member, will be the first sitting state chief to repeat his term in 25 years of BJP's organisational history in Uttarakhand. His election is now a mere formality as no other party leader filed his nomination papers for contesting presidential election in the allotted time from 10 AM to 12 noon.
State leaders who proposed Bhatt's candidature included chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Union Minister Ajay Tamta, Lok Sabha MPs Anil Baluni, Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, Ajay Bhatt and another former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.
Party's state election officer and MLA Khajan Das said "Only Bhatt's nomination was received for electing for the state president. The result will be formally announced on Tuesday by central observer and Union Minister Harsh Malhotra in the provincial council meeting. The state council members will formally stamp the name of the State President."
Das informed that nominations for electing BJP's National Council members from the state were also held on June 30. BJP leaders who filed their nominations for national council membership were cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Union Minister Ajay Tamta, former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal "Nishank," Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tirath Singh Rawat, Lok Sabha MPs Ajay Bhatt, Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, and Rajya Sabha MP Kalpana Saini.
