Shimla building collapse: Kisan Sabha demands halt to four-lane work

Shimla, June 30 (UNI) Heavy rains triggered a building collapse in Bhattakufar near Sanjay Van/Mathu Colony here, exposing alleged negligence in the ongoing four-lane construction project.
One house was completely destroyed, while several others developed cracks last night and the residents had to be evacuated, police said today.
Police from Dhali station, local residents, and Tehsildar Bhishma Kanwer rushed to the spot. Deputy Pradhan of Chamiyana Gram Panchayat, Yashpal Verma, said many nearby buildings are now under threat. He alleged that repeated warnings were issued to the construction company, but no preventive action was taken.
Anjana Verma, one of the affected homeowners, blamed reckless mining and excavation for the collapse of the retaining wall and the damage to homes. Locals have accused both the administration and the four-lane contractor of negligence and demanded strict action.
Amid mounting public anger, the Himachal Kisan Sabha has strongly condemned the company engaged in the four-lane project. State President Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar called the company “incompetent” and said its operations have historically troubled farmers. He urged both the Centre and the State Government to immediately review the company’s work.
“The construction should be stopped during the monsoon, as it endangers more homes,” said Dr. Tanwar. The Kisan Sabha has demanded the company pay compensation to those who have lost homes or suffered damage, and that the administration and the company arrange accommodation for displaced families.
The district administration has ordered an inquiry and assured all possible help to the affected. UNI ML SSP
