BJP slams Cong over unfulfilled farm promises ahead of Amit Shah's visit to Nizamabad

Hyderabad, June 27 (UNI) Telangana BJP State Spokesperson Ms Rani Rudrama launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of betraying farmers through false promises and poor governance.
Addressing the media at the BJP State Office in Nampally here on Friday, Ms Rudrama spoke ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Nizamabad on June 29, where he is set to inaugurate the National Turmeric Board—a long-awaited initiative by the Centre aimed at empowering turmeric farmers and boosting agri-based exports.
Expressing gratitude to Amit Shah, Rani Rudrama lauded the Modi-led NDA government for fulfilling the promise of establishing the National Turmeric Board to enhance market access, increase crop value, and promote global processing opportunities.
“The Congress and BRS governments failed to provide direction to agriculture. It is only the Modi government that has shown commitment with clear action,” she said.
Highlighting the Centre’s contribution to Telangana’s agriculture since 2014, she said nearly Rs 57,556 crore was spent solely on cotton procurement. The Cotton Corporation of India purchased Rs 58,000 crore worth of cotton, she noted, in sharp contrast to Congress’s partial and delayed implementation of its own farm bonus scheme.
She accused the state government of failing to fulfill its Warangal Farmers’ Declaration promises. “The Congress pledged Rs 15,000 for every farmer and tenant farmer, and Rs 12,000 for farm labourers. To date, only a fraction of these funds have been disbursed,” she said, adding that the Congress owes Rs 21,000 per farmer for missed installments over multiple seasons.
“The Rs 9,000 crore they’ve given recently is only election eyewash ahead of local body polls,” Rudrama claimed, demanding full payment of pending amounts to farmers and publication of tenant farmer lists for insurance coverage.
She highlighted the PM-KISAN scheme, under which Rs 27,488 crore has been deposited in farmers’ accounts in Telangana over 19 uninterrupted installments, demonstrating the Centre’s consistency in farmer welfare.
Rudrama also pointed out the Centre’s 12-time hike in MSP since 2014, citing that paddy prices rose from Rs 1,059 to Rs 2,369 per quintal, and cotton from Rs 4,010 to Rs 8,110 per quintal.
Criticizing the state’s failure in ensuring fertilizer supply, she said it was shameful that the government is now charging Rs 25 per urea bag as transportation cost, while the Centre provides Rs 18,000 per acre per year as fertilizer subsidy. She demanded an immediate rollback of this burden and free urea supply at Centre-subsidized rates.
On insurance, she accused the state of neglecting the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, pointing out that although Rs 1,812 crore was paid in the first year, the state failed to claim further funds.
“Even after promising to reintroduce the scheme, the Congress has done nothing for over a year,” she said, demanding immediate compensation for farmers affected by crop losses.
Rani Rudrama emphasised that the BJP is the only party committed to the welfare of Telangana's farmers, and reiterated the party’s demand that the Congress government deliver on its farm promises without further delay.
