BJP will not allow ‘Trinamoolisation’, Samik says amid TMC leaders joining party

Kolkata, Oct 5 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya on Monday said the party would not allow “Trinamoolisation” of its organisation, amid the induction of former TMC leaders, including actor and former Rajya Sabha member Koel Mallick.
Mallick joined the BJP on Monday and filed her nomination as the party’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from West Bengal. Her induction comes after former TMC Rajya Sabha MPs Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Sushmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik joined the BJP earlier this year.
Bhattacharya said the BJP would distinguish between those joining the party out of political conviction and people seeking to take advantage of its electoral success.
“If someone suddenly joins the party and, after the BJP’s success, tries to take advantage of the situation, that is a different matter,” he said.
He said the BJP would act against its own workers if they violated party discipline or became involved in anti-social activities.
“If any BJP worker crosses the line or gets involved in anti-social activities, the party will expel him. There have been very few such incidents,” Bhattacharya said.
He has previously maintained that the BJP would not allow its organisation to be “Trinamoolised”, even as the party has admitted several former TMC leaders following its victory in the state Assembly elections.
Bhattacharya also attacked former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, questioning her current political positioning and outreach to opposition parties.
He said Banerjee, who had earlier opposed the Left politically, was now moving closer to it while also asking leaders who had left the TMC to return.
“The people of West Bengal have no interest in all this,” he said.
Dismissing the INDIA bloc, Bhattacharya said its constituents lacked political coherence.
“So there is no such alliance. It is all nonsense. Let them continue doing this while the Bharatiya Janata Party continues to move forward,” he said.
He alleged that during the formation of the opposition alliance, Banerjee had gone to Delhi for a joint press conference, criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and proposed party president Mallikarjun Kharge as the prime ministerial candidate before leaving the programme.
On the CJP and opposition protests, Bhattacharya said people had a democratic right to protest but questioned the political forces behind such movements.
“People have the right to hold major movements and protests. Everyone has the right to protest,” he said.
Bhattacharya said the BJP's organisational discipline and ideological character would not be compromised despite the induction of leaders from other parties.
