Jharkhand: Minister orders action against negligent JJM contractors

Latehar, Oct 5 (UNI) Jharkhand minister Yogendra Prasad today directed officials to ensure time-bound and quality completion of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) schemes and take action against negligent contractors.
Chairing a review meeting at Betla National Park auditorium, Prasad reviewed JJM schemes in Latehar, Garhwa, Palamu, Gumla, Simdega and Lohardaga districts.
Officials briefed him on the status of completed and pending schemes, construction progress and drinking water supply.
During the review, instances of inadequate progress, contractor negligence and work allegedly not conforming to prescribed standards were reported. Prasad directed officials to initiate action as per rules and blacklist contractors found guilty of serious negligence.
He also ordered inquiries into cases where irregularities or negligence required investigation and directed that action be taken against concerned executive engineers and contractors based on the findings.
Prasad asked officials to conduct regular monitoring and field inspections, prioritise pending works and ensure that completed schemes were actually providing regular drinking water to rural households.
He said there should be no compromise on the quality of JJM works and stressed that rural households should receive safe drinking water through tap connections within the stipulated timeframe.
Departmental Secretary Abu Imran directed officials to prioritise safe and adequate drinking water supply to eligible rural households and resolve implementation-related issues promptly.
The meeting also reviewed operation and maintenance of schemes, water sources, pipelines and other infrastructure.
JJM Director Shashi Ranjan, Latehar Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar, Deputy Development Commissioner Saiyad Riyaz Ahmad and other officials were present.
