BJP women wing stages massive protest demanding Congress expel Akoijam over sexual harassment case,

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) The BJP Mahila Morcha on Monday staged a massive protest near the Congress headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, demanding the expulsion of MP, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam from the party, who has been accused of sexual harassment at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
During the protests, a small group of BJP Mahila Morcha workers broke through the barricades and reached the gate of Congress headquarters, while the saffrom party claimed that they were allegedly pushed by the grand old party workers present there and also hurled abusive remarks at them.
The massive women's protest was organised under the leadership of BJP Mahila Morcha National President and MP Roop Kumari Choudhary and was conducted by Delhi BJP General Secretary Yogita Singh, while several women leaders of the party also took part in the agitation including Uttar Pradesh Mahila Morcha President Saroj Kushwaha, Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha President Archana Gupta, Delhi MPs Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, and many others.
When the protesters attempted to breach the barricades, Delhi Police detained Mahila Morcha leaders, including Dr. D. Purandeswari Devi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, Yogita Singh, Aarti Mehra and several others, and they were later released after a warning.
Addressing the Mahila Morcha workers, Roop Kumari Choudhary said that the entire party strongly condemns the exploitation of students under the pretext of awarding marks by a Congress MP.
She said that the Congress must immediately expel this MP from the party because the daughters of our country are demanding justice.
"We want to ask Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi: Why are you silent? Your silence suggests that you are encouraging such acts and shielding those accused in serious cases of sexual exploitation."
"If you have even the slightest concern for the daughters of this country, you must break your silence on this matter, seek the resignation of the MP concerned and expel him from the party," she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that the inquiry committee had found the professor guilty following its investigation and that he had been removed from the university.
She further said that despite all of this, the professor concerned continues to be a sitting Congress MP, and it raises serious questions as to why Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, who frequently speak about women's rights and dignity, are silent on this.
MP Bansuri Swaraj said that it was deeply astonishing that Rahul Gandhi and the top Congress leadership, who raise the slogan "Smash the Patriarchy", had maintained complete silence over serious allegations of harassment against their own MP.
"I want to ask Rahul Gandhi whether your silence amounts to tacit support for the alleged sexual misconduct of your sitting MP, Bimol Akoijam. If 'Smash the Patriarchy' is not merely an election slogan for you, demonstrate it by taking action against Bimol Akoijam," Swaraj said.
She further said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam to increase women's political participation and empower them, Rahul Gandhi and Congress had worked to obstruct its implementation.
