Bollywood singer Mika Singh wants Uttarakhand minister apologise for insulting Daler at Navratri function

Dehradun, Oct 23 (UNI) Renowned Bollywood singer Mika Singh today demanded apology from Uttarakhand cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal over latter's allegation that his elder brother Daler Mehandi was drunk in a Navratri event held at minister's constituency and he was paid Rs 35 lakh for that.
Mika asked for apology while talking to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after latter called him on Thursday.
Following conversation with Dhami, Mika Singh shared a post on social media today and said, "I have immense respect for the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, @pushkardhami ji. He personally called me regarding the matter involving Daler Bhai, and I truly appreciate his gesture. I know Dhami Saab very well. He is a humble, down-to-earth person and I have great respect for him. My only humble request to him is to please ask Shri @SubodhUniyal1 ji to make a simple video clarifying his statement and apologising to Daler Bhai for saying that he was drunk during the performance."
Mika emphasised, "I believe misunderstandings can happen but they can also be resolved gracefully. I hope this small gesture will help put the matter to rest and ensure that Daler Bhai’s dignity and reputation are respected. I have faith in Dhami Saab’s understanding and leadership."
In another post, Mika stated, "The way Minister @SubodhUniyal1 ji spoke on stage was extremely rude and disrespectful. An artiste deserves dignity, regardless of the circumstances. He reportedly said on the stage "Yahan aapse pehle @manindarbuttar pit ke gaya tha. Itna pita tha ki ab uska baap bhi nahi aa sakta yahan se.” Is this really the language a minister should use for artistes? What kind of behaviour is this? Artistes come to perform, entertain people and honour their commitments. They deserve respect, not humiliation from a public platform."
"Subodh Uniyal ji, do you want artistes to stop coming to Uttarakhand? Such an attitude can discourage artistes from performing in a state that we all love. Please remember that people have given you the position you hold today. Public office comes with responsibility, humility, and accountability. I have immense love and respect for Uttarakhand, but artistes deserve respect, too. I sincerely hope you will reflect on your words and address this matter with dignity," added Mika Singh in his 'X' post.
Notably, Daler Mehndi's performance at Uttarakhand's Kunjapuri Fair in the recently concluded festival of Navratri resulted into controversy after Uniyal alleged that ace Bollywood and Punjabi singer was drunk on the stage. Uttarakhand minister had alleged that Mehndi was unable to sing on the stage for he was drunk. The minister questioned Daler Mehndi's voice and the way he spoke.
Uniyal had said that 59-year-old singer was paid more than Rs ₹30 lakh for the event, but he was unable to sing properly. Later, during a conversation with the media, Uniyal claimed that the singer appeared uncomfortable and confused. Minister said that he could not even stand properly and instead of singing live, Daler Mehndi was lip-syncing.
The minister had also objected to the singer's alleged behaviour during a programme dedicated to Goddess Durga during Navratri.
Interestingly, after Uniyal's video went viral, this triggered a debate among public whether the minister spoke for the audience or humiliated a senior artiste in public. On the othe hand, responding to minister's allegation of over Rs ₹30 lakh paid to Daler Mehndi for the event, Mika Singh demanded him to make the payment receipts public.
Significantly, matter escalated to the extent that several known figures from Indian film and music industry came in support of Daler Mehndi and attacked the minister. Seeing the controversy gain momentum, Uttarakhand CM Dhami intervened in the matter and made a call to Mika yesterday.
Dhami appealed Mika to put an end to the controversy. Chief Minister stated that his minister has clarified his stand and did not intent to hurt anyone.
According to Dhami, the minister was not aware of Daler Mehndi's poor health at the time. Chief Minister added that Uttarakhand is a land that respects writers, artistes and scholars.
