New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) NTPC Ltd, India's largest integrated power utility, has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from commercial and industrial (C&I) entities to acquire a 26 per cent equity stake in co-generation projects, as the state-run company looks to expand its industrial energy solutions business.
The proposed initiative aims to develop co-generation facilities that can meet industries' requirements for steam and electricity through integrated energy systems. NTPC is also exploring solutions combining coal-based generation, renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to provide reliable power supply tailored to industrial needs, the company said in a statement.
Co-generation, which involves producing electricity and useful heat or steam from the same energy source, can help industries improve energy efficiency and optimise operating costs. The model is particularly relevant for industrial units with substantial and continuous requirements for both electricity and process steam.
Through the initiative, NTPC intends to work with industrial consumers to develop long-term power supply arrangements that address their energy security, cost management and sustainability priorities. The proposed partnerships are expected to support the development of reliable and economical energy solutions suited to different industrial requirements.
The company said the move is part of its broader strategy to diversify its energy solutions portfolio and strengthen engagement with industrial customers. By leveraging its power generation expertise and exploring alternative supply models, NTPC aims to support industrial expansion while advancing energy efficiency and the transition towards more sustainable energy systems.
NTPC has an installed power generation capacity of more than 91 GW, with an additional capacity of over 35 GW under construction. Its generation portfolio includes thermal, hydro, solar and wind power projects.
The company has set a target of achieving 149 GW of total installed capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources. The expansion plan reflects its efforts to maintain a mix of conventional and clean energy capacity to meet India's growing electricity demand.
The proposed co-generation partnerships could provide another avenue for NTPC to deepen its presence in the industrial energy market while helping businesses secure integrated electricity and steam supplies through long-term arrangements.UNI VK AAB
