Centre appoints NIPHM officials as insecticide analysts for bio-pesticides across India

New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) The Centre has appointed senior officials and scientific personnel of the Hyderabad-based National Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM) as Insecticide Analysts for bio-pesticides across India, empowering them to perform statutory analytical functions under the Insecticides Act, 1968.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare issued the notification designating nine categories of officials for the purpose under Section 19 of the Insecticides Act, 1968, read with Rule 21 of the Insecticides Rules, 1971.
According to Gazette Notification S.O. 5705(E), the designated officers will have nationwide jurisdiction for analysing bio-pesticides under the prescribed legal framework.
The notification states that the Central government "hereby appoints the following Officers of the National Institute of Plant Health Management at Hyderabad, as Insecticide Analysts for bio-pesticides to the whole of India."
The appointments have been made on an ex-officio basis, meaning the statutory designation is attached to the specified official positions.
The designated officials include the Director (Plant Health Management), Director (Pesticide Management Division), Joint Director (Plant Health Management), and Assistant Directors dealing with horticulture, floriculture, agriculture and pesticide management.
Scientific Officers specialising in biopesticides and biocontrol, pesticide management, microbiology, entomology and plant pathology have also been included.
Under the Insecticides Act, analysts are responsible for examining samples referred to them under the law and submitting analytical reports in accordance with prescribed procedures.
The notification confers statutory authority on the designated NIPHM officers to undertake these functions for bio-pesticides throughout India.
The move establishes a nationwide jurisdiction for the specified officials, allowing their analytical expertise to be used in the implementation of existing insecticide regulations.
