Chennai Port achieves all time record in Pig Iron export handling

Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) The Chennai Port has achieved an all-time record in the export of Pig Iron by handling 14,778 tons on a single day on September 14, 2026.
The record shipment was executed through the vessel M V Supra Monarch at Jawahar Dock – VI, surpassing the previous record of 13,208 tons handled from M V Agia Charis on July 30, 2026.
This achievement highlights the operational efficiency and excellent coordination among all stakeholders involved in cargo handling operations at the Port, a PIB release said.
Chennai Port Authority Chairperson Sachin S.Kurve congratulated and appreciated the synergy and teamwork exhibited by the Vessel Agent M/s. James Mackintosh Co. Pvt. Ltd., the Stevedore M/s.Shipscaargo and the exporter M/s. SLR Metaliks Ltd., for their dedicated efforts in achieving this milestone.
Chennai Port continues to reinforce its position as a leading gateway for bulk cargo movement on the east coast of India, committed to enhancing operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has increased the hallmarking fee for gold jewellery and other gold articles from Rs 45 to Rs 75 per article, a move that comes just ahead of the festive buying season. The revised charges have taken effect immediately following the notification of the BIS (Hallmarking) Amendment Regulations, 2026, dated September 14.
