Children rescued from begging in Panchkula, placed in protective care

Panchkula, Nov 2 (UNI) Children found begging in markets and public places across Panchkula were rescued and placed in child care institutions on Monday as authorities launched an 11-day campaign aimed at protecting vulnerable children and ensuring their rehabilitation and access to education.
According to an official statement, the rescued children were produced before the Panchkula Child Welfare Committee, which ordered their placement in appropriate care facilities based on their safety, welfare and rehabilitation needs.
The operation covered several locations, including markets and public places in Sectors 20, 9, 4, 17 and 16, among others.
The drive is part of the “Bhiksha Nahi, Shiksha” (Education, Not Alms) campaign being conducted under the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The campaign will continue until November 12.
The campaign aims to assess each child’s circumstances and arrange appropriate protection, rehabilitation and assistance, with education and the child’s best interests guiding the response.
“The effort is to ensure that no child is deprived of education and basic rights,” the statement said.
Representatives of the commission, the district child protection unit, labour inspectors, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, police and the District Legal Services Authority participated in the operation.
The departments jointly identified children in need of assistance, brought them into protective care, and presented them before the Child Welfare Committee.
Authorities appealed to residents to support efforts to connect children with education and protection instead of giving them alms.
They also urged people to inform the child protection unit or police if they saw a child begging or in unsafe circumstances, so that assistance could be provided promptly.
