SP, BSP regimes marked by extortion, fear; development has taken place under Yogi govt: union minister

Gonda, Nov 2 (UNI) union Minister of State for External Affairs and Gonda MP Kirti Vardhan Singh on Monday alleged that extortion and insecurity prevailed under previous Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that development and improved law and order has brought relief to people under the Yogi Adityanath-led government.
Speaking at a function attended by Chief Minister Adityanath, Singh thanked him for the development projects undertaken in Gonda and said the district has witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure and public facilities.
"Before 2014 and 2017, people struggled for basic facilities such as electricity and roads. Women were afraid to step out of their homes due to insecurity. Today, development is taking place and people are free from fear," Singh said.
He alleged that extortion was rampant during the SP government and claimed that elected representatives, including village pradhans, block development council (BDC) members and block pramukhs, were pressured to contribute money during the BSP regime for celebrations marking the party chief's birthday.
Recalling the condition of roads in the district, Singh said stretches connecting Mankapur to Gaura Chowki and Darjikua to Babhnan were earlier in poor condition and residents had to endure the situation for years.
He also contrasted the electricity supply in villages under previous governments with the present situation, saying people earlier received power for only a few hours on alternate days.
"Today, farmers operate their irrigation pumps using electricity and do not have to stand in queues for diesel," he said.
Singh also highlighted improvements in the public distribution system, saying eligible beneficiaries now receive their ration through biometric authentication.
He said the district has benefited from the establishment of a medical college, construction of bridges and the setting up of major power stations.
Thanking Adityanath for his repeated visits to Gonda, Singh said no previous chief minister has given the district similar attention.
Referring to Gonda's historical legacy, he described it as the land of revolutionaries and recalled the contribution of Maharaja Devi Baksh Singh, after whom the medical college has been named.
Singh also referred to various government schemes and development initiatives and urged people to remember the changes brought about in the district during elections.UNI MBD AAB
