CM launches mega health camp in Haiderpur, assures no jhuggi demolition

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday assured residents of Haiderpur that no jhuggi in the area would be demolished and said the government would construct permanent housing for slum dwellers close to their existing settlements.
The Chief Minister said the tender process for construction of houses for residents of jhuggis in AU Block and AO Block in Haiderpur has already begun. Suitable sites around the two areas will be identified for the housing project, she said.
In the second phase, residents living in jhuggis around the Ayurvedic Hospital would be covered, with the government looking for suitable land nearby to ensure that families can be provided better housing without being displaced far from their present locality.
“Our aim is not to remove people but to improve their lives,” Gupta said, adding that providing better housing to poor families was the government's responsibility.
The Chief Minister was speaking during her visit to the Ayurvedic Hospital in Haiderpur, where she inaugurated a free mega health check-up camp under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’.
The camp is providing residents access to health check-ups, medical consultations and health guidance by specialist doctors at one place. Gupta appealed to people to avail themselves of the facility and undergo timely medical examinations.
“Healthy citizens are the foundation of a strong Delhi,” she said, stressing that healthcare services should not remain confined to hospitals but should be brought closer to people.
Gupta said timely health check-ups could help identify illnesses at an early stage and enable people to receive appropriate medical advice. She described the mega camp as an important initiative to bring public services closer to citizens.
The Chief Minister said a number of civic and infrastructure projects were being undertaken in Haiderpur to improve basic amenities.
These include new toilets, water ATMs for access to drinking water, Atal Canteens, new sewer lines, water pipelines and street lights. She said old structures and garbage bins were being removed as part of road-widening work, while new toilets and garbage bins were being constructed.
A new school up to Class 12 will also come up in Haiderpur, addressing a long-standing demand of local residents. Gupta said around 5,000 square yards of land had been made available for the school and the tender process was being prepared.
She said the school would enable children to pursue education closer to their homes instead of travelling to other areas.
A tender has also been issued for construction of a new community centre, which residents will be able to use for weddings and other social functions after its completion.
The government is also constructing a new Chhath ghat along the canal to provide improved facilities to residents during the festival.
Gupta said the new Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Haiderpur was making healthcare services more accessible to residents. The government also plans to develop a ‘Nirog Dham’ in the area, where healthcare facilities based on both Ayurvedic and allopathic systems would be promoted.
She said efforts were also underway to complete the long-pending construction of the hospital in the area. ‘No poor person should have to suffer’
Emphasising the government's focus on improving living conditions for the poor and those in need, Gupta said development works were aimed at making life more convenient for residents and securing a better future for them.
“It is my responsibility to ensure that not a single person in my Delhi faces hardship. It is my responsibility to ensure that no one in Delhi faces difficulties and that no poor person has to suffer,” she said.
The Chief Minister assured residents that the Delhi government stood with them in both their difficulties and moments of happiness and would continue to prioritise facilities and welfare measures for the poor, needy and common citizens.UNI PWS AAB
