CM Saini uses Valmiki Jayanti stage to push Haryana Welfare Model for Punjab, unveils major grants

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday announced a grant of Rs 31 lakh for a Valmiki students’ hostel in Hisar and released an additional Rs 7.30 crore for dharamshalas at the state-level Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti celebrations.
He made a direct appeal to export the state’s development model to neighbouring Punjab.
Addressing devotees at Sant Kabir Kutir under the Sant Mahapurush Prachar-Prasar Yojana, Saini declared that Punjab and Haryana share indissoluble social and historical bonds. He said people in Punjab deserve the same welfare architecture that Haryana is rolling out. “Punjab is a vital face of the nation. Collective efforts are needed to strengthen it,” he said, signalling an unusual cross-border pitch centred on governance rather than politics.
The Chief Minister backed his words with fresh financial commitments. The Rs 31 lakh pledge will go to the under-construction Valmiki hostel in Hisar, reinforcing the government’s claim that no child’s talent should be limited by poverty. The Rs 7.30 crore released on October 10 for dharamshalas raises the total allocation for such facilities to Rs 121.30 crore since the government assumed office in 2024.
In a notable employment highlight, Saini disclosed that 604 youths from the Valmiki community have been selected for the Haryana Police, presenting the figure as evidence of a historical barrier being broken. To institutionalise safeguards for marginalised groups, his administration has constituted the Haryana State Scheduled Castes Commission and the Haryana State Safai Karamchari Commission.
The government also strengthened its welfare narrative with hard numbers. Nearly 40 lakh people have received treatment under the Ayushman healthcare scheme. Fifteen thousand rural families have been allotted 30-square-yard residential plots. Eligible households with annual incomes up to Rs 1.80 lakh and power connections up to 2 kW are getting 2-kilowatt rooftop solar systems installed at zero beneficiary cost, bringing their electricity bills to zero. For women, the administration has spent Rs 6,500 crore over the past two years and is supplying cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500 to eligible beneficiaries.
Saini said scholarships from matriculation to higher education, competitive exam coaching, and hostel facilities are being provided to ensure that financial hardship does not impede upward mobility. “No one should face discrimination on the basis of birth, caste or economic status. True devotion lies in helping the needy, not just in ritual,” he said, insisting that Valmiki’s message of equality must translate into policy, not remain confined to prayer.
Former Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta and a large number of devotees attended the event.
